Hidden infectin is determined for ornamental
pot plants of the family Solanaceae, which includes also potato,
tomato and other vegetables. Flowers of ornamental species are in
the form of big horns, for example Datura Brugmansia (Datura)
suavolens and B. cordata (since containing
alkaloids, they are also called angel horns), or in forms similar
to potato flowers, for example Solanum jasminoides.
In the event of spread of PSTVd, the most
endangered would be potato and tomato. Since no treatment exists
after infection, preventive is the most effective protection
agains the infection - prevention of introduction and
spread.
Inclusion of PSTVd on List
I.A.I provides also for its compulsory suppression with the aim
of eradication.
