2. National Variety List
The National Variety List is the official list of
the varieties of agricultural plants which have gone through the procedure
of entry of a variety in the National Variety List in accordance with
the Agricultural Seeds and Propagating Material Act (ZSMKR). The
varieties are included in the National Variety List which are liable to
be entered therein under the ZSMKR (agricultural plants, vegetables,
hops and vine). On the request of the applicant, varieties of other
species of agricultural plants may also be entered in the National
Variety List provided that they satisfy the prescribed conditions.
The National Variety List includes the information
on an individual variety, laid down in Article 21 of the
Rules on the
procedure for acceptance of a variety in the National Variety List and
on keeping of the National Variety List. Some variety designations
indicate as a synonym also the original variety designation or a foreign designation of varieties which are present also in the
neighbouring countries. For foreign varieties where no synonym is
indicated, the original name of the variety is used in the Republic of
Slovenia. The main characteristics of varieties are indicated in notes
in the form of abbreviations which are explained at the beginning of the
publication.
The National Variety List includes also the Register
of protected plant varieties in which the varieties are entered that
satisfy the requirements for protection under the The Protection of New
Varieties of Plants Act.
At the end of the publication is a List of breeders,
persons responsible for maintenance, authorised persons of the persons
responsible for maintenance and holders of a plant variety right.
The National Variety List is issued once a year in
the printed and electronic form.
In the meantime, the ONLINE INFORMATION on varieties,

3. Descriptive Variety List
The Descriptive Variety List (DVL) is a collection
of information on varieties of agricultural plants, obtained as a result
of special examination of varieties.
The special examination of varieties provides for
establishing the adaptation of varieties to our growing conditions, the
growing potential, the quality of yield and the resistance to biotic and
abiotic environmental factors. Such information on an individual variety
is necessary for expert counselling and application of varieties, in
particular after joining the EU when all varieties which are entered in
the Common Catalogue of Varieties of Agricultural Plants and Vegetables
and have not been subject of preliminary examination in Slovene
conditions, may be marketed and produced without limitations.
The aim of the Descriptive Variety List is to
prepare a collection of information on an individual variety on the basis
of the previously obtained results of examination of varieties in the
procedure of acceptance in the Slovene National Variety List, and the
results of examination obtained by the special examination of varieties.
The Descriptive Variety List is intended for
experts of the Agricultural Advisory Service and, first of all, for
producers.
The Descriptive Variety List shall be prepared by
the Phytosanitary Administration RS, together with the performers of
examination of varieties, and shall publish this in an independent
collection Opisna sortna lista Republike Slovenije (The Descriptive
Variety List of the Republic of Slovenia), available in a printed and
electronic form.
