II. PROTECTION OF VARIETIES OF PLANTS according to the SYSTEM OF THE
EUROPEAN COMMUNITY
EU membership brings many novelties concerning the
protection of varieties of plants. As from 1 May 2004 also all
varieties, which are protected under the system for the protection of
varieties of the (European) Community, are subject to protection in the
Republic of Slovenia, in total about 10,000 plant varieties.
Uniform procedure for the protection of
varieties of plants in the Community shall be conducted by the Community Plant Variety Ofiice
(CPVO) with the registerred office in Angers in France. All varieties
protected under the system of Community protection of varieties shall be
subject of the same protection in Slovenia as those protected under
Slovenian regulations.
