"THE USE OF GIS TECHNOLOGIES FOR PHYTOSANITARY AIMS"

Project is based for upgrading the capacity of the phytosanitary administration and complete preparations for the practical application and enforcement of the management mechanisms of phytosanitary and food safety legislation and control.

MAFF and PARS have been building integrated phytosanitary information system since 2002. Firstly to support official registration for the purpose of plant passports and phytosanitary certification. Further developing of modules for plant health checks and outbreaks recording, geographic distribution maps of harmful organisms and international notification of interceptions depends on adequate IT-equipment. Furthermore, a unified and integrated information system for the phytosanitary sector, which links the areas of plant health, plant seeds, plant protection products and the registration of plant varieties is foreseen. Therefore for the development of corresponding integrated information system, connection and upgrading of the existing capabilities shall be required, in particular on regional level and at official laboratories.

TARGETS:

- initial meeting to compare the Slovenian and Italian experiences in the use of IT tools in the Phytosanitary sector

- technical meeting on use of GIS technology applied to the Phytosanitary sector (FITO-nadzor); comparison, evaluation and possible further development of application of GIS technology in Slovenia

- technical meeting on use of GIS technology applied to the Phytosanitary sector (FSI-pregled); discussion on the results of the previous days meetings and preparation of a workshop on GIS application

- seminar on GIS application in the Phytosanitary sector
